How Contact Source Tracking Works

By default, when a new contact is created:

If the contact is added manually, or added through another application:

How to add a Custom Contact Source

If you want to assign a custom contact source to the contact, add the Source field in a form. When a new contact fills out the form:

How are the Attribution data tracked?

The system automatically tracks attribution data for the first and last attribution. Then they are added to their corresponding custom fields which you’ll find within the Attributions section in the contact record.

The following attribution data are logged:

*Please note: The last attribution data will always change based on the last recorded interactions. However, the first attribution data will always show the sources associated with first recorded interactions.

How to Add UTM Tracking Parameters

Step 1: Select which UTM parameters to use:

These are the UTM parameters that you can use to track your campaigns. These UTM parameters also work with Google ads.

Source: This parameter reflects the traffic source such as search engine, social media platform, website, etc.

Medium: This parameter reflects the channel or medium that you used in your campaign.

Campaign: This parameter reflects the name of your campaign, or any relevant terms that will make it easy for you to determine the event or activity that generated the lead.

Step 2. Add the UTM parameters to the campaign URL

Your campaign URL should look like this:

https://yourlandingpage.com?utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid_ad&utm_campaign=summer_2023_free_trial

Tip: You can use this Campaign URL Builder tool to generate your URL:

Step 3. Copy the URL and use in your campaign

That’s it! Make sure your landing page includes a form. This way, when leads complete the form, the system will capture and record their UTM parameters.

How to Use Attribution Data in your Reports

Step 1: Export contact data

You can generate reports by exporting contact data from FunnelBud. Ensure that you include the following Attribution custom fields when exporting:

First-touch custom fields can provide valuable insights into initial points of contact and sources that contributed to raising awareness, ultimately guiding the customer to discover your brand.

On the other hand, last-touch custom fields can help identify the specific campaigns and touchpoints that played a direct role in influencing the conversion.

Step 2: Use the exported data to create reports

Once exported, you can use this data in spreadsheets or upload to customized reporting solutions for a comprehensive analysis.
